Tomahawk, WI 10/15/2014 (Basicsmedia) – Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE:SNE) is set to focus more on the gaming business with the unveiling of Play station TV as one of the ways of offsetting a decline of its smartphone business. Wedbush senior analyst Michael Pachter believes Sony could enjoy breakthrough in the gaming industry unlike the smartphone space where it is grappling with immense competition. During an interview on CNBC, Pachter reiterated that Sony’s biggest threat in the gaming scenery will come from Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and not, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN).

The ability to play games on the Play station TV without having to connect any console is one of the features that is set to make the new invention even popular in the gaming world.

“I think Apple with the vast size of the iTunes library had a good effort with Apple TV. Amazon is trying to do the same with Fire TV, but Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE:SNE) has got its own Movie Content its own television content. It knows how to make original content; Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) clearly did not and so Sony has a very-very large gaming Library,” said Mr. Pachter.

Apple is set to offer Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE:SNE) the biggest test in the gaming business mainly because of its expansive library and its brand name. On the other hand, Pachter expects Sony to beat Amazon in the gaming space as the company has original content that will take years for Amazon to develop.

Pachter argues that Amazon will pay the price for positioning Fire TV as a gaming console yet it does not have any original content, which it can offer users. The analyst expects the giant online company to throw in a lot of cash as one of the ways of trying to compete hand in hand against Sony.

“Sony Corp (ADR) (NYSE:SNE) has a library of literary hundreds of original games that they have put on the PlayStation PS2, PS3 and now PS4. The Play station TV is an extension of the PS4. You can actually play a PS4 game if you have a PS4 console in a different room from where the console is, by using a Play station TV and they are creating a lot of original content,” said Mr. Pachter
