A Hybrid Bus Project For UC-Irvine

BLDP shall deploy the hybrid bus in the Irvine campus of the prestigious University of California. This endeavor is partnered with Eldorado National, BAE Systems and the University of California (Irvine).

Ballard Power Systems Inc. (USA) (NASDAQ:BLDP) shall supply its sixth-generation FCvelocity-HD6 Power-Module, apart from providing holistic Engineering Services Support. The module is deemed to generate 150 KW of power and is featured with a Control Unit that interfaces this module to the system controller, enabling the hybrid fuel cell platform to operate in a ‘Plug-and-Play’ mode! This entire module is durable, and suffices better power density and efficient fuel consumption, in comparison to the last generation products!

Once complete, this hybrid bus shall be the sixth one in this race, based holistically on the AFCB (American Fuel Cell Bus) Configuration. Ballard’s fuel-cell module shall endow the hybrid bus, replete with primary power, in conjunction with the propulsion mechanism fostered by the BAE Systems. The 12 meter (40-feet) power management system is ought to be deployed by ElDorado National.

The deployment of these methanol-fuelled backup power options were initially conjectured to happen by November 2013, however, devastating Typhoon Haiyan forged a half-yearly delay! The systems use liquid fuel, branded HydroPlus; a 225 liter tank can power a telecom grid from 100 continuous hours.
