Tomahawk, WI 05/07/2014 (Basicsmedia) – With a billion and a quarter users and growing, Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) certainly is the envy of other social media platforms. The challenge for Facebook as a publicly-listed company was to convert that user base into top line revenue and bottom line profits. It seems Facebook is succeeding in that endeavor.

Great Quarterly Results

Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) beat Wall Street expectations with 1Q2014 revenues of $2.50 billion which was up 72% compared to 1Q2013. Advertising revenue in 1Q2014 amounted to $2.27 billion which was up by 82% compared to 1Q2013. Reinforcing Facebook’s strong position in the mobile advertising space, mobile advertising for the latest quarter amounted to approximately 59% of total advertising revenue for 1Q2014 compared to mobile advertising’s share of approximately 30% of total advertising revenue in 1Q2013.

Monthly active users (MAUs) as of March 31, 2014 were 1.28 billion, representing an increase of 15% compared to last year while mobile MAUs were 1.01 billion on the same date representing an increase of 34% compared to last year.

Daily active users (DAUs) for March 2014 were 802 million representing an increase of 21% compared to last year while mobile DAUs were 609 million on average for March 2014 representing an increase of 43% compared to last year.

With a lot of scope to expand advertising with full motion video ads, Instagram ads as well as leveraging newer acquisitions such as WhasApp and Oculus, Facebook’s growth engine is nowhere near stalling.

Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB)’s attraction for mobile advertisers is underlined by the fact that it got 17.5% of the $18 billion spent on mobile ads worldwide in 2013 but this year, Facebook’s share of an expanded mobile advertising budget worldwide — some $32 billion — will be 21.7%.

Not only Facebook but Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) and Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) too have come up with products to target ads better to consumers. Everyone is trying to put their best foot forward to attract advertisers and the winner stands to gain billions in ad dollars.
