Tomahawk, WI 04/05/2014 (Basicsmedia) –, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) has launched the Amazon Fire TV, which is a set-top box for gaming and also streaming TV and music. The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) has reported last week, that the company had plans to launch a TV and music streaming service. The announcement comes as a threat for Netflix, which happens to be the country’s leading Internet TV provider. In fact, the breakout of the news led to a fall in Netflix’s stock prices too.

Netflix still the leader

The market is concerned of the risks, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN)’s new streaming service will provide to Netflix, but there is no substance as of now. Netflix , Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) totally plays itself in a different manner in the market. They have captured a huge, loyal customer base over the years. It continues to bring about innovation in its services to customers and as a result of that, it is expected to keep increasing its customer base.

Also, Netflix , Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) will continue to benefit from more entrants in the field of Internet TV as that will increase overall growth in the category.

Threat to Google and Apple

Amazon seems to be competing with Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG). The new launched Fire TV is a direct competitor to the Apple TV and also to Google’s Chromecast. It will help people in stream services from their preferred subscribers, like Netflix or Hulu.

The fire TV will also be able to support Android games, probably by next month. An optional controller priced at $39.99 can be used to play these games. The controller will also have an app for the Kindle Fire and 1,000 Amazon coins for buying games. Quite a few companies are working with Amazon to develop games for the Fire TV.

The Fire TV has been priced at $90, the same as that of the Apple TV while the Chromecast is significantly lesser priced at $35. However, considering the brand value of Apple, customers might just not sway to, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) yet, despite the fact that, it offers larger memory and more games. It is however, expected that the Fire TV might turn out to be popular among gamers.
