Tomahawk, WI 01/28/2014 (BasicsMedia) – Google Inc.’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) fondness for the artificial intelligence technology and robotics is well known amongst the tech world and keeping in line with its love for artificial intelligence technology, Google has acquired London based privately owned artificial intelligence company DeepMind Technologies Ltd., reportedly for above $400 million! The acquisition was reportedly led by Google’s CEO Larry Page.

DeepMind was founded by neuroscientist Demis Hassabis, Mustafa Suleyman and researcher Shane Legg in 2012. DeepMind claims to combine “the best techniques from machine learning and systems neuroscience to build general-purpose learning algorithms.” Last May Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) had launched its “Quantum Artificial Intelligence Lab” with the aim of “building better models of the world to make more accurate predictions” and had teamed up with NASA for the same. Google has acquired DeepMind mainly for expanding its horizons in the field of artificial intelligence.

Last year Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) had acquired a company specializing in developing super fast robots, known as “Boston Dynamics”, which was said to reportedly have ties with the U.S. military. Google is making a mark for itself in the field of artificial intelligence and robotics and its back to back acquisitions of different technologically advanced companies only goes on to establish Google’s strong headed approach for developing itself as a technological giant with its presence being felt in every area of technology that is being developed. Google has also established an ethical board to ensure that DeepMind’s artificial intelligence is not abused.

It has been reported that many acquisitions of technological companies is made for Google’s X lab division which is responsible for developing self-driving cars, Google Glass, etc. Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) has acquired many companies in the field of artificial intelligence and robotics in the past few years not only because of the patents these companies possess but also because of innovations these companies have launched or are capable of launching. Google’s robotics business is now led by Andy Rubin who is responsible for successfully developing Android. What remains to be seen is the way in which Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) will capitalize, nurture and use the acquisitions made by it and whether or not these acquisitions will help in Google’s growth and development as a technical giant in the field of robotics and artificial intelligence.
