Tomahawk, WI 05/12/2014 (Basicsmedia) – According to Jose Martinez, a business solutions manager at Goodyear Commercial Tire Systems, a subsidiary of The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company (NASDAQ:GT), a trucking business’ third-largest capital expense on average, is tires.

Martinez stated that regardless of the fleet’s purpose in a business, their tires represent a sizeable investment, which why it is essential for fleets of trucks to measure the performance and condition of their tires, so they can get the most out of these mission-critical assets.

Tire Trac

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company (NASDAQ:GT) stated that its Tire Trac online tire management tool; assists fleet with monitoring the installations of tires, their on-road and off-road performance, reasons pertaining to why tires were removed from service, and other vital metrics. It also aids fleets with identifying maintenance opportunities.

Martinez added that Tire Trac could be used to help fleets with ensuring that they are employing the best tire for their purpose, by comparing performance data with similar fleets and a variety of tires.

Tire Trac’s data is accumulated through fleet surveys that are carried out by trained technicians from authorized Goodyear dealerships or service centers.

Technicians carry out on-site inspections, measuring tread depth, tire inflation levels and other such characteristics.  The information is then used to generate customized reports that reveal how a fleet’s tires are performing.

Martinez also said that Tire Trac allows you zero in on a particular tire or take a look at all the tires in a fleet, in order to get a holistic idea of how the tires doing and how their performance would impact your cost.

Goodyear’s New Airship

Goodyear had narrowed down the list of potential names for the new airship that is intended to be the next generation of its famous blimp.

It was reported that people submitted over 15,000 suggestions through a naming contest conducted by the Akron-based company. The ten shortlisted names include Explorer, Ambassador, Pride of Goodyear and Inspiration.

People could vote for their preferred title on Goodyear’s website for three weeks – a window that had just recently ended on May 9, earlier this month. Goodyear stated that whoever submitted the winning name would get access to the airship for a day.

The helium-filled, high techblimp possesses a semi-rigid internal structure that wasn’t present in earlier models – a feature that raises questions about whether it is truly a blimp, though Goodyear still refers to it as one. Its silver balloon-like body is emblazoned with The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company (NASDAQ:GT)’s logo against a blue background.
