Tomahawk, WI 01/23/2014 (BasicsMedia) – Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) will report its fourth quarter results tomorrow and analysts are of the view that Facebook earnings for this quarter shall exceed expectations as Facebook has beaten the earnings estimate in last 3 out of 4 quarters and its normal for Facebook to spring surprise figures when least expected.

Facebook’s expansion plan

In the last quarter Facebook has managed to be in the news for the all the right purposes and with the recent mobile success of Facebook and with its announcement to introduce large scale mobile ad network, the future is looking bright for Facebook. Facebook has struck a deal with T-Mobile Us Inc (NYSE:PCS) USA to offer free access to Facebook and Facebook Messenger to users of GoSmart prepaid services card and Facebook has also entered into several similar agreements with many international carriers which have helped in growth of its user base in the mobile arena.

Skeptics view of Facebook

Many skeptics are of the view that Facebook will not be able to survive in the changing industry conditions and Facebook is merely a phenomenon which will come to an early end. Even researchers at Princeton University have predicted doomsday for Facebook as they believe that Facebook will lose 80% of its users in the coming 3 years i.e. between 2015 to 2017 and they have used controversial methods to arrive at this conclusion. The researchers at Princeton have compared Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ:FB) with epidemics stating that “just like the bubonic plague in the 14th century Facebook will eventually end up dying” and they also believe that ideas are like diseases as they have been shown to spread infectiously and then die a sudden death.

Facebook hits back

On the research made by Princeton, Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ:FB) has responded by publishing a post on Facebook titled “Debunking Princeton” wherein Facebook have predicted that by using the same methodology as Princeton, Facebook has come to the conclusion that Princeton will lose all its students by 2021 and the Earth will run out of air by 2060. Facebook has made it clear in no uncertain terms that not only is Princeton’s research methodology callous and flawed but the idea that Facebook is like a disease only because people are addicted to it is completely preposterous and unthinkable.

Princeton’s research has not yet been peer reviewed but it may be partly true as Facebook had last year reported a fall in its teen users. However, what Princeton did not take into account is the fact that the habits of teens and adults are different as people are more likely to experiment in their teens but they form unchanging habits as they grow up and many of Facebook’s users are adults which will help in maintaining its user base in the long term.

Conclusion

No matter what the skeptics believe or what the analysts say because for Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) it’s up to their earnings figure for this quarter to do all the talking and as have been noted time and again that whenever figures and stock prices dictate the terms, the only thing that market can do is to stand up and applaud!
